Remote Hearing on “Ensuring a Free, Fair, and Safe Election During the Coronavirus Pandemic”
On Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. ET, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, chaired by Rep. James E. Clyburn, will hold a remote hearing with civil rights advocates and public health experts to examine the steps that must be taken to ensure a free, fair, and safe general election during the coronavirus pandemic.
This hearing follows letters from Chairman Clyburn and Committee on House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren to election officials in four states—Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Wisconsin—urging them to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommending “[l]ower risk election polling settings” that enable all eligible voters to safely cast their ballots. The Committees’ letter requested information on these states’ plans to implement CDC recommendations, which include more early voting, more polling locations, shorter lines, longer hours, and more voting options.
