The Devastating Impact of the Coronavirus Crisis in America’s Nursing Homes

Event Date:
Thursday, June 11, 2020 - 12:00pm

On Thursday, June 11, 2020, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, chaired by Rep. James E. Clyburn, will hold a video briefing with experts and affected Americans to examine the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on nursing home residents and workers.

This comes as new reporting shows that an estimated 40,000 coronavirus-related deaths in the United States are linked to nursing homes and long-term care facilities and more than 600 nursing home employees have died.

The coronavirus death toll in nursing homes can be attributed to a number of factors, including ongoing shortages of testing supplies and personal protective equipment, understaffing, poor infection control, and limited federal guidance and resources.
