Press Release

Washington, D.C. (February 25, 2022) – Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, issued the following statement on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) new guidelines that ease mask recommendations in counties designated as low and medium risk, which currently comprise 70 percent of the U.S. population:

“The new CDC guidelines on mask wearing are a welcome signal that the worst impacts of the Omicron variant are behind us.  This important step on the path back to normal is fully supported by up-to-date science, consistent with the entirety of the Biden-Harris Administration’s pandemic response.

“This science irrefutably shows that the recommended course of coronavirus vaccination provides robust protection from serious illness and death from all known variants.  Even as we enter this new, less dangerous phase of the pandemic, vaccination will be the difference between life and death for many Americans.”
