Clyburn Issues Statement on Emergency Use Authorization of First Coronavirus Vaccine for Children Ages 5-11

October 29, 2021

Washington, D.C. (October 29, 2021) — Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, issued the following statement after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for children ages 5 to 11:

"Today's authorization of the first coronavirus vaccine for children under 12 represents a significant milestone in our nation's fight against the coronavirus. Not only will this decision help to protect the 28 million children nationwide who are now eligible to receive a coronavirus vaccine, but it will help to slow the spread of the coronavirus throughout communities and across generations. I applaud the scientists, researchers, and health officials whose groundbreaking work has led to this critical milestone. I am also thankful to the Biden-Harris Administration for its work to prepare for distribution of vaccines for these children. Vaccines save lives. I urge all Americans with children ages 5 to 11 to ensure that their children are vaccinated as soon as possible."
