Press Release
After discussing lessons learned from the pandemic, Members will adopt final report

Washington, D.C. (December 13, 2022) – Tomorrow, December 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. ET, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, chaired by Rep. James E. Clyburn, will hold a final hearing on how to prevent and prepare for future public health emergencies, to be immediately followed by a business meeting at approximately 3:30 p.m. where its final report will be formally adopted.  Issuance of the final report will be the committee’s final official act, pursuant to its 2020 authorizing resolution, H. Res. 935, extended in relevant part by H. Res. 8 in 2021.

Witnesses at the final hearing will include the former Director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), a researcher who helped develop the mRNA coronavirus vaccine, an expert in workplace equity and unemployment insurance, and a previous Illinois state official who led the state’s response to the pandemic.  The witnesses will testify on the public health and economic impacts of the coronavirus and explore many of the Select Subcommittee’s 30 recommendations for preparing for and preventing future public health emergencies.

Informed by the committee’s oversight work and extensive investigative record, the final report is based on the entire investigative record and oversight work of the Select Subcommittee, including the findings of over 37 staff reports and analyses, 42 hearings and Member briefings, and the review of nearly a million pages of documents.  The recommendations within the report include:  accelerating development of next-generation coronavirus vaccines and therapeutics; investing in improved financial relief and public health infrastructure; combating misinformation; and protecting relief programs from fraud.
