Press Release

Washington, D.C. (March 2, 2022) – Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, issued the following statement on the announcement of the Biden-Harris Administration’s National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan, a comprehensive strategy for the next phase of pandemic response following the worst impacts from the Delta and Omicron variants:

“Today’s announcement of this new national pandemic response plan is a milestone in our fight against this deadly virus: the Biden-Harris Administration’s National Strategy for the COVID-19 Response has been executed successfully, and the coronavirus pandemic has entered a less dangerous phase. The Administration’s updated strategy for this new phase—protecting against and treating COVID-19, preparing for new variants, preventing economic and educational shutdowns, and continuing to lead global vaccination efforts—will keep Americans safe while minimizing the need for public health measures like masking and distancing.

“The Administration’s initial actions under this strategy, including providing additional free tests at COVIDTests.gov and implementing a ‘test-to-treat’ program, are precisely what is needed at this moment of transition. It is also critically important for all Americans to remember that even as we emerge from the crisis phase of the pandemic, being up-to-date on coronavirus vaccinations can still be the difference between life and death.”
